Your AI’s appetite is becoming a driver of strategic M&A value growth in energy. From 2024 to the first half of 2026, global deal value in Energy and Natural Resources M&A grew 29%, alongside a 9% increase in deal count.
These numbers follow the rising power demand for data centres, which soared by 17% in 2025, well above the 3% growth in global electricity demand.
You saw a clear sign of this traction in Teaser Energy Europe. In H1 2026, we covered 320 deals in our European curation, with Solar dominating the list, followed by Wind and BESS. The latter was especially notable for its integration angle, with hybrid projects including storage outpacing several other sectors.
Dealmakers’ appetite continued at the start of H2. You can check this week’s deals in our Deals Tracker. The highlights were:
- Drax moved forward with its all-cash acquisition of Bluefield Solar Income Fund Limited (BSIF), after publishing and sending the transaction’s scheme document to shareholders. The document outlines a planned completion date of 31 July, subject to shareholder approval, the fulfilment of the deal conditions and court sanction.
- Royal Vopak completed the acquisition of a 79% controlling stake in Green Energy Storage (GES) and took the final investment decision to develop a 200 MW / 800 MWh battery storage system in Oosterhout, the Netherlands, in a transaction involving around €230 million.
- China Three Gorges Corp. is in talks to acquire from NEAG Norddeutsche Energie AG a portfolio of operational onshore wind farms in Germany, according to Bloomberg. The assets have 312 MW of installed capacity and an estimated enterprise value of around €300 million or more.
